A man was spotted loitering outside a shop window in Islington just after 3:30 am on a Thursday morning in May, according to the Standard. The individual, wearing a canvas backpack, black hooded jacket and bucket hat, appeared to be watching cars and buses while positioning himself near the shop window in a manner consistent with preparing to break in.
The incident formed part of what the Standard reported as “London’s mysterious wave of smashed shop windows,” suggesting a pattern of similar incidents occurring across the capital during this period.
Business owners should remain vigilant during overnight hours, reinforcing window security, installing motion-activated lighting and CCTV, and considering protective film or grilles for high-risk windows.
