A Co-Op store in Broughton, Lancashire, was raided following a break-in where a window was smashed with an axe, according to an article published on 8 April 2025. Police responded to the incident and deployed a police dog to track down the intruder. The suspect was located and detained at the scene. According to Blogpreston, the incident forced the store to close temporarily as a result of the raid.
Business premises such as supermarkets should ensure that windows and entry points are protected with reinforced glass or security bars, and that alarm systems are properly maintained and monitored.
