According to Banburyguardian and BBC reports from 8 January 2025, a Marks and Spencer store located in Banbury retail park in Oxfordshire was targeted by a gang in an attempted ram-raid burglary. The thieves used a vehicle to ram the store structure in an effort to access the cash machine, causing significant damage to the building and its installations.
Despite the violence of the intrusion and the extent of the damage inflicted, the gang failed to steal the ATM or its contents. Local authorities launched an investigation into the attempted burglary to identify the members of the group responsible for the attack.
Retail businesses should review security measures for high-value assets such as cash machines and consider reinforced bollards or other physical barriers to prevent ram-raid attacks.
