Break-in at Sutton-in-Ashfield sandwich shop

According to an article published by Nottinghampost on 5 March 2026, a 43-year-old man has been sentenced following a burglary at a Subway branch in Sutton-in-Ashfield. On 10 January, Angus Mason broke into the shop at Lakeside Point by smashing a window. Once inside, he ripped out the till and stole £100.

Nottinghampost reports that investigators were able to identify Mason after he left behind a torch at the scene. Forensic analysis of the item revealed his DNA, which allowed police to link him to the crime. Officers subsequently arrested Mason in Sutton-in-Ashfield on 10 February. Following a guilty plea at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on 26 February, Mason was sentenced to five months in prison and ordered to pay £150 in compensation.

Business owners are encouraged to ensure that all point-of-sale areas are secured and that cash is removed from tills overnight to deter potential intruders.
