Residential burglaries in Cambridge lead to prison sentence

According to an article published on 26 June 2025 by Cambridgenews, a 43-year-old Cambridge man has been jailed for 21 months following a series of residential burglaries. Jonathan Brown, of Cam Causeway, pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted burglary at Peterborough Crown Court.

Cambridgenews reports that Brown broke into a property on Tavistock Road overnight between May 19 and 20 of last year. While the owner was away, he stole jewellery from a bedroom and attempted to force open a safe in the garden using tools found on-site. Police were alerted to the scene after a neighbour noticed the break-in. Forensic evidence, specifically DNA found on a spade, linked Brown to the crime.

Additionally, the court heard that Brown had attempted to burgle a home on Histon Road on April 29 of last year. He was confronted by a resident after attempting to access the property through a window, subsequently fleeing the scene on a bicycle. DNA evidence recovered from a garden table further connected him to this incident. Authorities emphasised the significant emotional distress caused to victims by the loss of sentimental items.

Ensure all doors and windows are securely locked and consider installing a home security system to deter unauthorised access.
