Violent burglary at a private residence in Redcar
According to an article published by Gazettelive on 16 November 2024, a violent burglary occurred at a private flat in Redcar. The incident, which took place on 7 August, involved a 24-year-old intruder who entered the elderly victim’s home at 2:30 a.m.
Gazettelive reports that the perpetrator held a knife to the pensioner’s throat and used wire to gag him while demanding a bank PIN number. The victim had managed to dial 999 before the intruder entered, allowing police to listen to the confrontation as it unfolded. The assailant eventually fled the scene when officers arrived at the property. DNA evidence recovered from the victim’s clothing later linked the suspect to the crime.
The individual, who had been released from prison six weeks prior to the event, subsequently pleaded guilty to attempted burglary. During court proceedings, it was noted that the victim lived alone at the time of the attack.
