Theft of diamond rings at Braehead Shopping Centre
According to an article published on 29 October 2024 by the Dailyrecord, a theft occurred at the Ernest Jones jewellery store located in the Braehead Shopping Centre in Renfrew. The incident, which took place in August 2023, involved the theft of 25 diamond rings valued at £29,000.
Dailyrecord reports that 19-year-old Jack Duff, acting alongside another male, targeted the store’s eternities cabinet while staff were occupied with other customers. The suspects removed the items and concealed them in their pockets before fleeing the scene. The theft was discovered shortly after when a staff member noticed the cabinet drawer had been left open. The stolen jewellery has not been recovered.
Following a review of CCTV footage, Duff was identified and subsequently appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court. The case has been deferred for sentencing until 22 November, with reports being prepared for the court.
Business owners are encouraged to ensure that all display cabinets are kept locked and are monitored closely during busy periods to prevent opportunistic theft.
