Armed robbery at Newquay business

According to an article published by Cornwalllive on 14 October 2024, two men were sentenced at Truro Crown Court for a robbery that took place at a Premier shop on Linden Road in Newquay on 7 July 2022.

Cornwalllive reports that Steven Mohammed, 33, and Michael Dalton-Truscott, 34, entered the premises wearing hooded tops with their faces covered. During the incident, the shopkeeper was working alone when the two men demanded money. After the shopkeeper initially resisted and attempted to fend off the attackers, Mohammed produced a Stanley knife and handed it to Dalton-Truscott. The victim subsequently allowed the pair to take £160 from the till.

Following the robbery, both men were arrested and later pleaded guilty to charges of robbery and possession of a knife. On 11 October 2024, Judge James Adkin sentenced Mohammed to 36 months in prison and Dalton-Truscott to 32 months in prison. Both defendants cited personal hardships, including homelessness and substance abuse, as contributing factors to their actions at the time of the offense.

Business owners are encouraged to review their security protocols and ensure staff are trained on how to respond safely during a robbery attempt.
