Significant theft reported at Waterbeach bike shop

According to an article published by Cambridgenews on 10 September 2024, a specialist bike shop in Waterbeach is currently recovering following a major burglary. The owner, Steve Heathcock, discovered the incident on 23 October 2023, finding that thieves had stolen approximately 90 per cent of the store’s stock, valued at nearly £200,000.

Cambridgenews reports that the perpetrators gained entry by climbing onto the roof, disabling communications equipment, and cutting a hole through the wall to bypass the alarm system. The individuals responsible were not captured on CCTV and have not been identified or arrested. Cambridgeshire Police stated that there is currently insufficient evidence to proceed with the investigation, though they remain open to new lines of enquiry.

In response to the incident, the business has implemented enhanced security measures, including additional CCTV and high-security locks. The owner noted that while the theft has caused significant setbacks, the shop continues to operate with the support of its customers. Business owners are encouraged to regularly review and upgrade their security systems to deter potential intruders.
