Robbery at a Crewe betting shop
According to an article published on 5 August 2024 by Cheshirelive, a man has been sentenced to 45 months in prison following a robbery at a betting shop in Crewe. Benjamin Hargreaves, 35, entered the premises on Market Street and demanded money from staff, claiming he had a gun concealed under his jacket. After obtaining £300, he fled the scene in a taxi.
Cheshirelive reports that police identified Hargreaves as a suspect and intercepted the vehicle on Middlewich Road in Sandbach. Upon his arrest, officers found him in possession of the stolen cash and cannabis. The taxi driver later confirmed that Hargreaves had admitted to the robbery and the possession of a firearm during the journey. In addition to the robbery charge, Hargreaves was charged with criminal damage to the taxi and possession of a class B drug. He pleaded guilty to the offences and was sentenced at Chester Crown Court on 2 August 2024.
