Guilty plea entered in Woolacombe residential burglary
According to an article published by the BBC on 18 July 2024, an intruder has pleaded guilty to a burglary at a private home in Woolacombe, Devon. Alexandru Balea, 23, admitted to breaking into the residence while the owners were away and killing their pet dog, Una, by stabbing the animal 11 times.
Balea entered his pleas at Exeter Crown Court. According to the BBC, the case has been adjourned until 6 August, and the defendant has been remanded in custody. The court was informed that the burglary falls into the most serious category within sentencing guidelines, with a potential sentence ranging up to six years.
Sector Inspector Andrew Wills noted that while residential burglary remains rare in the community, this specific incident has caused significant concern. Authorities have confirmed that this case is not currently linked to any other reports. The investigation continues as the court prepares for the final sentencing hearing.
