Incident at a Belfast cafe

According to an article published on 3 January 2025, a man has been sentenced to four months in prison following a theft and disturbance at Pottingers Cafe in Belfast. U105 reports that the 32-year-old individual became aggressive toward staff after being denied access to the premises’ toilets.

The prosecution stated that the man began throwing items and consuming brownies from the display without payment. When asked to leave the cafe, he produced boxing gloves and threatened to fight the staff members present. Following his removal from the business, the individual continued to act in a disruptive manner on the street. He later pleaded guilty to charges including theft, disorderly behaviour, criminal damage, and assaulting a police officer during the incident, which occurred on 19 November 2024.

Business owners are encouraged to implement clear access policies and maintain staff training to handle confrontational situations safely.
