Jail sentences for North London commercial burglaries

According to an article published by Enfieldindependent on 31 October 2024, a 29-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison for a series of burglaries targeting Co-op convenience stores across North London. The offender, Imen Hersi, committed eight burglaries between November and February in areas including North Finchley, Friern Barnet, and Muswell Hill.

Enfieldindependent reports that Hersi frequently assaulted shop workers while stealing spirits and cigarettes. In one instance, an employee stated she feared for her life during an attack. Hersi was eventually apprehended following a final burglary on February 21, during which he was accompanied by 62-year-old David Stephenson. Stephenson, who was armed with a hammer, received a 13-month prison sentence for his involvement.

In addition to the custodial sentence, the court issued a Criminal Behaviour Order against Hersi, prohibiting him from entering any Co-op or Holland & Barrett stores within London. Both men have extensive criminal records and were reportedly struggling with drug addiction at the time of the offences.

Business owners are encouraged to review their security protocols and staff safety training to better protect employees during potential incidents.
