Serial burglar sentenced for spree in Bury
According to an article published by Thesun on 31 October 2024, a career criminal named Shamsul Islam has been sentenced to four years in prison following a burglary spree in Bury, Greater Manchester. Beginning in August, the 40-year-old targeted seven different businesses, including pubs, restaurants, and a hair and beauty salon.
Thesun reports that the perpetrator was captured on CCTV crawling on his stomach and hurdling countertops in a clumsy attempt to evade detection while stealing cash from tills. In one instance, he was caught red-handed after a restaurant owner received a remote security alert and observed the burglary in progress. Forensic evidence, including blood left at a scene after the suspect smashed a glass, helped police identify and apprehend him.
Police Constable William Loughran of the Bury Neighbourhood Crime Team noted that the offender showed no regard for the business owners whose livelihoods he ransacked. Islam, who is of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court for his actions.
Ensure that all ground floor windows and doors are securely locked and fitted with appropriate alarm systems to deter unauthorized access.
