Sentencing following series of commercial burglaries in London
According to an article published on 31 October 2024 by Timesseries, two men have been sentenced for a series of burglaries targeting convenience stores across London. Imen Hersi, 29, was sentenced to five years in prison after being convicted of eight burglaries, two robberies, a theft, and an attempted theft. Timesseries reports that Hersi targeted various Co-op stores, including locations in North Finchley, Friern Barnet, and Muswell Hill, between November and February.
During these incidents, Hersi frequently assaulted shop workers while stealing spirits and cigarettes. In one instance, he struck an employee with his elbow after she attempted to challenge him. Hersi was eventually apprehended following a burglary at a Barnet Co-op on 21 February, where he was accompanied by 62-year-old David Stephenson. Stephenson, who was armed with a hammer during the incident, received a 13-month sentence. Both men have extensive criminal records and were reportedly struggling with drug addiction at the time of the offenses. Following the sentencing at Wood Green Crown Court, Hersi is now subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from all Co-op and Holland & Barrett stores in London.
Business owners are encouraged to review their security protocols and staff safety training to better protect employees and premises.
