Robbery and assault at a Norwich shop

According to an article published on 1 June 2024 by Eveningnews24, a man has been sentenced to 16 months in prison following a robbery and assault at a local shop. Paul Knights, 38, admitted to several charges, including robbery and assault, during an appearance at Norwich Magistrates Court.

Eveningnews24 reports that the robbery occurred on 17 October 2023, when the offender pushed and punched a shop worker to gain access behind the counter, stealing a gas canister valued at £3.90. In addition to this incident, Knights admitted to assaulting a support worker on 10 October 2023 and violating both a Criminal Behaviour Order and a restraining order.

The court heard that the offender had been self-medicating with butane gas for pain relief. While on remand, he asked for 11 other offences, primarily involving shoplifting and criminal damage, to be taken into consideration. Norfolk Police stated that they remain committed to protecting retail staff from such violence and ensuring that offenders are dealt with robustly.

Business owners are encouraged to review security protocols and provide staff with training on how to handle aggressive individuals safely.
