Knifepoint robbery of taxi driver in Stoke-on-Trent

According to an article published on 31 May 2024 by Stokesentinel, two men have been sentenced to a total of six-and-a-half years in prison following a knifepoint robbery of a taxi driver. Luke Richardson, aged 29, and James Abbotts, aged 32, were sentenced at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for the incident, which occurred after the pair directed the driver to various locations while searching for a missing bag containing cash, phones, and drugs.

Stokesentinel reports that during the journey, the defendants became aggressive. Richardson produced a knife, tapping the driver on the shoulder and demanding cash. The victim surrendered £180 from his vehicle’s centre console before the pair fled. The driver was reportedly so affected by the ordeal that he required a month off work. Richardson received a sentence of three-and-a-half years, while Abbotts was sentenced to three years in prison.

Business owners and mobile service providers should ensure they have robust safety protocols and emergency communication systems in place to protect staff working in isolated or high-risk environments.
