Residential burglary in Truro
According to an article published on 3 May 2024 by the Mirror, a 34-year-old man from Newquay has been sentenced for burgling an elderly resident in Truro. The victim, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease, had previously allowed the defendant to live in his home for five months to help him get his life back on track.
The Mirror reports that the defendant, Jeffrey Fogerty, had previously been employed by the victim for odd jobs. After being asked to leave the property due to missing funds, Fogerty returned to the home on 4 December 2023. The court heard that Fogerty unlocked the back door during a visit and returned in the early hours of the following morning to enter the house. The victim awoke to find the defendant searching his bedroom for a bag containing money and bank cards.
Fogerty subsequently withdrew £250 from the victim’s account before being confronted and later arrested by police. In addition to the burglary charge, he was found in possession of a Class A drug. The victim reported that the incident has caused him significant anxiety and distress. Always be cautious when granting access to your home, even to individuals you believe you know well.
