Ram-raid incident at Sawbridgeworth bank
According to an article published on 23 April 2024 by Itv, a gang of balaclava-clad individuals targeted a Nationwide bank in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. The suspects used a stolen telehandler to smash into the building and rip a cash machine from the wall at approximately 5:30 am.
Itv reports that the incident was captured on video by a local resident. The footage shows at least three individuals involved in the operation. After loading the ATM onto a stolen white pick-up truck, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning the telehandler in the road. Hertfordshire Police are currently investigating the theft and are working with the town council to review CCTV footage from the area.
Inspector Mark Collins has appealed for any members of the public who may have captured additional footage of the event to contact the police. The investigation into the identity and whereabouts of the gang remains ongoing.
Business owners are encouraged to review their external security measures and consider installing bollards or reinforced barriers to protect against vehicle-based ram-raids.
