Arrest made following armed robbery at Cornish market
According to Wgme, an arrest has been made in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at the Cornish Market and Variety on May 6. Following an investigation, 42-year-old James Palmer of West Baldwin was taken into custody on Thursday as he was leaving a hotel in Scarborough.
Wgme reports that the incident involved a male suspect who entered the store, assaulted the clerk, and displayed a firearm to force the opening of a safe deposit box. The suspect fled on foot with approximately $2,100 in cash. The clerk was not injured during the event.
The arrest was the result of a joint operation involving the Maine State Police, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, and local police departments from Scarborough, South Portland, and Portland. Executed search warrants led to the seizure of several firearms and items used during the crime. Palmer is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail on $10,000 cash bail, facing charges including robbery with a firearm.
