According to Invernesscourier, a Premier Stores shop in Inverness was targeted in an attempted burglary involving substantial damage to the building. The thieves gained entry by removing roof tiles and cutting a hole through the ceiling to access the store. They were after a stock of cigarettes valued at approximately £8,000.
Despite the scale of the break-in and damage caused to the shop, the raiders fled without successfully taking the full amount of goods they had targeted. Police Scotland opened an investigation and appealed to the public for information about the incident, published on 30 January 2025.
Businesses should consider roof and ceiling access points as part of their security assessment and work with local police to strengthen protection against determined break-ins.
