Attempted robbery at a Greggs bakery in Handforth

According to an article published on 18 August 2025 by Thesun, a man identified as Vincent Foley, 43, of Manchester, has pleaded guilty to attempted robbery following an incident at a Greggs bakery in Handforth, Cheshire. Thesun reports that the suspect, wearing a balaclava, entered the premises on July 4 armed with a hammer. He chased employees out of the store’s office before attempting to access the bakery’s safe.

Thesun states that the suspect failed to open the safe despite obtaining a set of keys from the office, eventually fleeing the scene. Following his arrest in Rochdale, Foley appeared at Chester Crown Court on August 13, where he pleaded guilty to attempted robbery, burglary, theft, and possession of an offensive weapon. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 11. Cheshire Police noted that CCTV footage was instrumental in identifying the suspect. Business owners are encouraged to ensure their security systems are well-maintained and clearly visible to deter potential intruders.
