A burglar operating in Leamington, Warwickshire, has been using a deceptive tactic to gain access to residential properties. According to Warwickshireworld, the offender impersonated a water company employee to trick homeowners into letting them inside.
This method exploits the natural trust residents place in utility workers and the expectation that such individuals may occasionally need access to homes for inspections or maintenance work. By assuming a false identity, the burglar was able to bypass the initial barrier of entry and gain the trust needed to cross the threshold.
Residents are urged to verify the identity of any utility worker before allowing access to their homes, particularly if the visit was unexpected.
