Jeweler targeted in Ramsey burglary
According to an article published by Huntspost on 19 December 2024, a man has been sentenced following a burglary at Underwood The Jewellers in Darling Mews, Ramsey. In the early hours of 29 February, 38-year-old Darren Wheeler smashed the front window of the premises to gain entry. Once inside, he used furniture to break display cabinets, stealing more than £4,000 worth of jewelry, including watches and earrings.
Huntspost reports that Wheeler was identified via CCTV footage and arrested at his home in Peterborough shortly after the incident. Officers recovered stolen earrings embedded in his shoe and found the clothing he wore during the crime outside his property. On 18 December, Wheeler pleaded guilty to burglary and other charges at Peterborough Crown Court. He received a one-year prison sentence for the burglary, which will be served concurrently with other sentences and is suspended for two years.
Detective Constable Zoe Bramley noted that commercial burglaries cause significant distress and harm to livelihoods, as the cost of repairs often exceeds the value of the stolen goods. Businesses are encouraged to ensure their premises are equipped with high-quality alarm systems and reinforced glass to deter unauthorized entry.
