Music venue forced to cancel events after break-in

According to an article published on 8 April 2024 by Getsurrey, a community centre and grassroots music venue in Woking has been forced to cancel scheduled events following a burglary. The incident resulted in extensive damage to the building after copper piping and cabling were ripped from the roof, causing internal flooding.

Getsurrey reports that the venue’s co-founder and CEO, Elaine McGinty, discovered the damage after being alerted to water flowing through the building. In addition to the structural damage caused by the stolen pipes and water, the venue reported the theft of PA equipment, a mixing desk, and various instruments acquired through years of community fundraising. The damage has led to the cancellation of events over the Easter weekend and the following week, with further closures possible while contractors assess the building.

While insurance may cover the cost of the stolen items, the venue currently has no coverage for the resulting loss of earnings. The incident remains under assessment as the venue works to address the widespread damage caused by the theft.

Business owners are encouraged to review their security measures and consider installing monitored alarm systems to protect valuable equipment and infrastructure.
