High-value coin collection stolen in Abthorpe

According to an article published on 25 March 2025 by Northamptonchron, two men have been sentenced for their roles in a conspiracy to burgle a private home in Abthorpe. Clinton David Barry Bowen and Albert Johnson targeted a coin dealer by placing a tracking device on his vehicle after arranging a meeting under the guise of a business transaction.

On 10 March 2024, four masked individuals entered the victim’s residence while the occupants were asleep, stealing a collection of rare coins valued at £500,000. During the incident, the victim attempted to intervene but was stabbed in the leg by one of the offenders. The stolen items have not been recovered.

Following a trial at Gloucester Crown Court, Bowen was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison, while Johnson received a sentence of six years and four months. Northamptonshire Police confirmed that the burglary significantly impacted the victims, who have since moved from their home. Bowen, who was sentenced in his absence, is currently the subject of an arrest warrant after absconding during the legal proceedings.
