A cleaner has been jailed for burgling elderly residents at a care home in Gateshead, according to the BBC. Anthony Whitesmith broke into the rooms of two sleeping women at the facility in October, Newcastle Crown Court heard. Whitesmith worked at the care home at the time of the offences. The court proceedings were reported on 29 January 2025.
Care homes must ensure robust security measures and staff vetting procedures to protect vulnerable residents from theft and intrusion.
