Security challenges for Portland clothing retailer
According to an article published on 21 May 2026 by Kptv, the Midtowners Market clothing store on Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard in Portland has been the target of vandalism and a break-in within a two-week period. Kptv reports that the store first suffered vandalism in April when a paving stone was thrown through the front windows. Two weeks later, the business was broken into, resulting in the theft of a computer, jewelry, and other merchandise.
Co-owner Megan Collins stated that the combined cost of damages and stolen items is approximately $12,000. While the store has applied for a reimbursement grant through Prosper Portland, the funding is not guaranteed. Kptv notes that neighboring businesses were also affected by the initial act of vandalism. The store is currently working to recover from these financial losses and continues to operate while seeking community support.
Business owners are encouraged to review their security measures, including the installation of reinforced glass or security film, to help deter unauthorized entry.
