Three people have been arrested following the theft of copper wire from infrastructure in Plymouth, Devon. Newportdispatch reports that the arrests were made in connection with the theft, which has since become the subject of local investigation.
Copper wire theft remains a persistent challenge for businesses and utilities, as the metal is valuable in scrap markets and attracts persistent criminal attention. Infrastructure operators, including power and telecommunications networks, face particular exposure to these losses, which can disrupt services and result in significant replacement costs.
Businesses and property owners should secure vulnerable infrastructure with regular audits, install monitored CCTV at accessible points, and work with local law enforcement to deter and prevent theft of high-value materials.
