Violent burglary group sentenced

According to an article published on 4 April 2024 by Walesonline, a criminal group has been sentenced for a series of pre-planned burglaries, including an incident in Cardiff. The group, spearheaded by 42-year-old Ras Thomas of Cardiff, targeted homes while disguised in balaclavas and armed with machetes and crowbars.

Walesonline reports that the group travelled from Birmingham to Cardiff on 14 June last year to steal a safe from a property in St Mellons. Later that same day, the offenders travelled to Taunton, where they assaulted victims and stole a safe containing £50,000 worth of jewellery. The victims were threatened and left in fear for their lives during the encounter.

A police investigation utilizing CCTV, mobile phone data, and vehicle tracking led to the identification and arrest of the defendants. Following a hearing at Newport Crown Court, several individuals were found guilty or pleaded guilty to charges including aggravated burglary and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Business owners are encouraged to invest in high-quality security systems and reinforced safes to protect valuable assets from targeted theft.
