Essexlive reports that Tommy Mitchell, 25, used a stolen Land Rover Defender to attempt to pull the ATM from the premises after cutting through the shop’s shutters. The attempt was unsuccessful, and Mitchell fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle behind. The burglary caused significant damage to the shop, forcing it to close for four days while repairs were conducted.
Police identified Mitchell through DNA evidence recovered from the steering wheel of the abandoned vehicle and a serial number on a tow strap used during the crime.
