Burglary at Deiniol Shopping Centre
According to an article published by Northwalesdailypost on 18 November 2024, a man has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for a burglary at a jewellery business in Bangor. Iain Butterworth, 50, admitted to theft and criminal damage following an incident at the Deiniol Shopping Centre on Bangor High Street.
Northwalesdailypost reports that on 25 March 2023, Butterworth trespassed into the shopping centre while it was closed. He used a tool to smash the glass doors of an antiques shop before filling a plastic bag with jewellery valued at approximately £56,100. The perpetrator was identified through CCTV footage and subsequently appeared at Caernarfon Crown Court on 15 November 2024.
PC Stephanie Owen of North Wales Police stated that the burglary was an invasive crime and noted that the force remains determined to pursue those who target local businesses. Business owners are encouraged to ensure that all entry points are reinforced and that high-value inventory is stored in secure, monitored safes outside of operating hours.
