A break-in at a primary school in Coventry, West Midlands, has resulted in the theft of laptops, according to a BBC report published on 24 June 2024. The incident targeted the school’s equipment, with thieves making off with the devices during the break-in.
The theft highlights the vulnerability of educational institutions to burglary, particularly when security measures are not sufficiently robust. Schools hold valuable computing equipment essential to teaching and learning, making them potential targets for opportunistic criminals seeking to resell stolen goods.
Educational institutions are encouraged to review and strengthen their physical security measures, including secure storage of valuable equipment, reinforced locks and doors, CCTV surveillance, and alarms to deter and detect break-ins.
