Over 600 artefacts stolen from Bristol Museum storage

More than 600 artefacts from Bristol Museum’s British Empire and Commonwealth collection were taken in a high-value burglary at a storage facility in September, according to the BBC and Guardian. Detectives have classified the theft as a significant loss and launched an investigation to locate the stolen items. Police released surveillance images showing a group of individuals suspected of involvement in the break-in, and are appealing to the public for information on the suspects’ identities or the whereabouts of the stolen artefacts, according to an article published on 12 December 2025.

Museums and institutional storage facilities should maintain robust access controls, comprehensive CCTV coverage, and regular inventory audits to deter and detect high-value thefts.
