Armed robbery at Leicester pharmacy

According to an article published on 24 December 2024 by Leicestermercury, a pharmacy on Narborough Road in Leicester was the target of an armed robbery on 16 August 2024. Mitchell Williams entered Vision Pharmacy and demanded prescription medication. When staff refused his request and attempted to prevent him from accessing the counter, Williams produced a large knife.

Leicestermercury reports that staff members were forced to flee the premises after the suspect became aggressive. During the incident, Williams seized a variety of drugs, including diazepam, before climbing onto the roof of the building. This action triggered a standoff that required the attendance of Leicestershire Police and the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service, resulting in the closure of Narborough Road.

Williams eventually surrendered after throwing the knife and other items from the roof. Leicester Crown Court heard that the defendant, who has a history of previous offences, was later arrested. During the court proceedings, it was noted that the incident occurred shortly after a personal bereavement. Businesses are encouraged to implement robust security protocols and staff training to effectively manage aggressive incidents and protect employees.
