Residential burglary in Penyrheol

According to an article published on 5 December 2024 by Southwalesargus, a man has been sentenced to three years in prison following a burglary at a private home in the Penyrheol area of Caerphilly. The defendant, 39-year-old Michael Durham, broke into his neighbour’s flat and stole a large quantity of items, including objects of sentimental value.

Southwalesargus reports that the presiding judge at Newport Crown Court described the incident as a “vile” and “spiteful” offence, noting that the perpetrator caused extensive damage and urinated on the victim’s furniture. The court heard that the defendant was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the break-in, which occurred between February and September.

In addition to the burglary, Durham was sentenced for further offences committed while on bail, including the theft of his partner’s car and purse, as well as driving while disqualified. The judge imposed a three-year driving ban to follow the defendant’s release from custody.
