Residential burglary in South Shields

According to an article published on 16 April 2026 by Chroniclelive, a burglar has been sentenced to 926 days in prison following a break-in at a private home in South Shields. The incident occurred in the early hours of 31 October, while a couple and their child were asleep inside the property.

Chroniclelive reports that the perpetrator, Lee Hepplewhite, gained entry by smashing the glass of a rear door. The mother was alerted to the intruder after hearing footsteps on the stairs. Upon inspection, the family discovered that items had been moved and estimated the repair costs for the door at £500. Hepplewhite also pleaded guilty to the theft of £9,260 worth of tools from a works van in the same area, as well as assaulting an emergency worker following his arrest.

During the court proceedings, the defense described the house break-in as an opportunistic act. The defendant, who was under the influence of drugs at the time, expressed remorse for his actions. Always ensure that all entry points to your home are securely locked and reinforced to deter unauthorized access.
