Armed robbery at Easington supermarket
According to an article published by Northernecho on 8 August 2024, a teenager has been arrested following a robbery at a supermarket in Easington, County Durham. The incident occurred at the Co-op store on Seaside Lane at approximately 6.55am on Thursday, 8 August.
Northernecho reports that a masked individual entered the premises armed with a knife and stole a quantity of cigarettes before fleeing the scene. Durham Constabulary confirmed that a 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and affray. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
A spokesperson for the Co-op stated that no staff members were injured during the incident and that the store would reopen later the same day to continue serving the community. Police are appealing for anyone with information regarding the event to come forward.
