Break-in impacts Southwell property sale
According to an article published on 16 February 2024 by Nottstv, the sale of the former Minster View children’s home in Southwell has been renegotiated following a break-in. The incident, which occurred in the autumn, resulted in damage to the property and the theft of copper piping.
Nottinghamshire County Council had previously approved the sale of the site in June 2023. However, due to the damage sustained during the unauthorized access, the authority confirmed that the sale price was adjusted to reflect the current condition of the building. Council documents indicate that the property is slated for redevelopment under a residential-led scheme.
Cllr Keith Girling, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Asset Management, expressed disappointment regarding the incident. The council noted that while the property could potentially be re-marketed, current market conditions and interest rates suggest that achieving a higher price would be unlikely. The deal remains in a commercially sensitive period as the council moves forward with the revised terms.
Ensure all vacant premises are regularly monitored and secured to prevent unauthorized access and theft of building materials.
