Second arrest following armed robbery at Newcastle pub

According to an article published by Newcastleweekly on 14 March 2024, a second man has been charged following an investigation into an armed robbery at The Commonwealth Hotel, also known as The Commy, in Cooks Hill.

Police reported that on 28 February, two men armed with a machete and a baseball bat forced entry into the premises. The suspects confronted two employees and fled with cash. During the incident, a male employee suffered a medical episode after being assaulted and was transported to the hospital in serious condition. A second employee sustained minor injuries.

Following inquiries under Strike Force Krichauff, detectives arrested a 28-year-old man in Cooks Hill on 13 March. He has been charged with robbery armed with an offensive weapon, reckless grievous bodily harm in company, and conspiracy to commit robbery in company. The suspect was refused bail and appeared in Newcastle Local Court on 14 March. One other man was previously charged in connection with the robbery and remains before the courts.
