Retail businesses targeted in Wrexham crime spree
According to an article published on 14 May 2024 by Northwalesdailypost, a serial burglar has been sentenced to 16 months in prison following a series of raids on retail premises in Wrexham. Richard Watson, 34, admitted to six counts of burglary with intent to steal, which took place throughout February and March.
Northwalesdailypost reports that the defendant used bricks and a metal bollard to smash glass doors and windows to gain entry to several locations, including Farm Foods, United Carpets and Beds, and the Lot 11 Cafe. During these incidents, the intruder stole various items, including cleaning products, wine, and cash. The court heard that the total cost of stolen goods and property damage across the affected businesses amounted to several thousand pounds.
The defendant was eventually arrested by police on Brook Street on 19 March following a report of an individual inside the United Carpets and Beds premises. In a victim statement, Farm Foods noted that the repeated burglaries have negatively impacted staff morale and the overall customer experience.
Business owners are encouraged to ensure that security systems, including CCTV and reinforced glass, are regularly maintained and monitored to deter unauthorized access.
