Sentencing of prolific shoplifter in Shirley

According to an article published by Coventrytelegraph on 19 July 2024, a 38-year-old man has been sentenced to 34 months in prison for a series of offences targeting a Co-op shop in Shirley. Justin Brook pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including six thefts, burglary, assault, and several counts of making threats with a bladed article.

Coventrytelegraph reports that over a 10-month period, Brook repeatedly targeted the store, stealing items including alcohol, cigarettes, and chocolate. On multiple occasions, he threatened staff members with a knife if they attempted to intervene. In another incident, he threatened employees with a needle before fleeing with alcohol and cigarettes. Brook was eventually arrested on 17 June following an attempted break-in at a hairdresser’s in Moseley. Following his sentencing at Birmingham Crown Court on 16 July, he was also issued a two-year Serious Violence Prevention Order.

Business owners are encouraged to review their security measures and maintain regular contact with local law enforcement to help deter criminal activity.
