Series of supermarket break-ins in Devon

According to an article published on 30 August 2024 by Devonlive, Devon and Cornwall Police are investigating a series of linked burglaries targeting Morrisons Daily supermarkets in Exmouth and Ottery St Mary. Thieves repeatedly smashed through glass front doors to steal vapes, tobacco, and drinks.

Devonlive reports that the Pines Road store in Exmouth was targeted twice. The first incident occurred on 21 August, resulting in the theft of approximately £7,000 worth of goods. A second break-in took place at the same location on 23 August. Additionally, a branch in West Hill, Ottery St Mary, was burgled on 27 August.

In each instance, suspects were seen fleeing the scene, often leaving discarded items behind. Police are currently reviewing evidence and are appealing for residents to check personal CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage for any relevant information. Authorities have requested that anyone with details contact them via their website or by calling 101, referencing the specific crime numbers provided for each location.

Business owners are encouraged to reinforce entry points and ensure that high-value inventory is stored in secure, restricted areas outside of operating hours.
