Ram-raid incident in Thorpe Marriott
According to an article published by the BBC on 20 January 2026, a supermarket in Thorpe Marriott has sustained significant damage following an overnight ram-raid. Norfolk Police report that a stolen digger was used to target a cash machine at the Tesco Express located in The Square at approximately 02:24 GMT on Tuesday.
Following the theft of the machine, the perpetrators reportedly fled the scene in an unidentified vehicle. Local authorities are currently investigating the incident and have issued an appeal for witnesses or individuals with relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
The store manager, Ben Ellis, confirmed that the premises will remain closed for several weeks to facilitate necessary structural repairs. Adrian Crotch, a local councillor, noted that the shop and its post office are expected to be out of operation while Tesco property services manage the restoration of the damaged frontage. A spokesperson for the supermarket chain has apologized to customers for the inconvenience and stated that efforts are underway to reopen the store as quickly as possible.
