Residential burglary and assault in Croydon

According to an article published on 28 November 2024 by the Mirror, two men have been sentenced to prison following a violent break-in at a private home in Croydon. Adhamon Mebrahtu and Jamie Osman, both 23, followed a woman to her residence after meeting her on a tram.

The Mirror reports that the men forced their way into the property, where they subjected the victim to a sexual attack. Mebrahtu also stole the victim’s phone. Detectives identified the perpetrators by matching DNA found on cigarette butts left at the scene, as well as through extensive CCTV analysis that disproved their initial claims.

Mebrahtu was sentenced to five years in prison on 25 April after being found guilty of rape, sexual assault by penetration, and theft. Osman was sentenced to three years in prison on 20 November following a retrial. Detective Constable Paul Harakis commended the victim for her courage throughout the investigation and trial process.

Always remain vigilant of your surroundings when returning home and ensure your doors are securely locked behind you.
