Ram raid at Harwich retail store
According to Standard, three men have been sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court following a series of burglaries and thefts across Essex and Hertfordshire. Among the crimes committed was a ram raid on a Home Bargains shop in Harwich on 7 April 2024.
Standard reports that the perpetrators used a JCB telescopic forklift, stolen earlier that evening from Clacton Road, to rip a cash machine from the wall of the store. The ATM was subsequently loaded onto a stolen pick-up truck and later discovered abandoned at a nearby golf club. The machine, which was irreparably damaged, still contained £55,000 in cash.
The three defendants, Shane Hadderton, Marvin Usher, and Deividas Fiodorovas, were sentenced last Thursday for their roles in the conspiracy, which also included multiple residential burglaries throughout April 2024. Fiodorovas received a sentence of six years and eight months, Hadderton was jailed for three years and nine months, and Usher was sentenced to two years and five months.
Business owners should ensure that external cash machines are protected by robust anti-ram bollards and monitored by high-definition security cameras.
