Ram-raid incident at Cheltenham supermarket
According to an article published on 7 February 2024 by Gloucestershirelive, a Co-op store in Bath Road, Cheltenham, was targeted in a ram-raid burglary. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 6 February, shortly after 4am.
Gloucestershirelive reports that four or five men were involved in the raid. The perpetrators used a Range Rover to smash a hole in the front of the building to gain access. After stealing an ATM, the group fled the scene in a second vehicle, believed to be either an Audi or a BMW. The stolen cash machine was later recovered in the back of a van.
The store was forced to close temporarily, and a section of Bath Road remained shut for most of the day following the incident. The shop has since reopened with the damaged front area boarded up. Gloucestershire police are currently investigating the matter and are examining potential links to similar crimes in the county. Authorities have requested that anyone with information contact them, quoting incident 31 of February 6.
Businesses are advised to review their security measures and consider installing bollards or reinforced barriers to prevent vehicle-based access to their premises.
